About

International Museum Day is celebrated every year on May 18, an initiative established by the International Council of Museums (ICOM) in 1977. The aim of this day is to highlight the role of museums in society as institutions that promote cultural exchange, dialogue, education, and mutual understanding among peoples.

Each year, the day is dedicated to a different theme, reflecting contemporary challenges and the role of museums in addressing them.

The theme for 2025 is: “The Future of Museums in Rapidly Changing Communities.” This year’s theme reflects the challenges museums face in a constantly evolving world. It highlights the role of museums as dynamic institutions that foster resilience, innovation, and social cohesion.

International Museum Day is a significant opportunity to showcase the cultural heritage of Nea Vyssa. In this context, the Cultural Association of Nea Vyssa “Stefanos Karatheodoris,” in collaboration with the Carathéodory Museum, is organizing a series of activities to highlight the important work of the Carathéodory Museum and the Carathéodory family, with a special focus on the great Greek mathematician Constantin Carathéodory.
