The Cultural Association of Nea Vyssa «Stefanos Karatheodoris», founded in 1977, is dedicated to preserving and transmitting the cultural heritage of our refugee ancestors to new generations.

Our identity

The Association takes its name in honour of the Karatheodoris family, and in particular the internationally renowned mathematician Constantin Carathéodory, who hailed from the historic village of Bosna — today's Nea Vyssa.

To achieve the above objectives, the «Stefanos Karatheodoris» Cultural Association of Nea Vyssa has demonstrated rich activity through cultural events, the revival of traditional customs, initiatives that highlight the work of the Carathéodory family within the Carathéodory Museum, educational programmes with traditional dance lessons for children and adults, social and volunteer initiatives, as well as cooperation and networking activities with institutions and other associations.

Each year we hold a memorial service for Constantin Carathéodory, revive traditional customs, celebrate the feast of Saints Constantine and Helen, and organise the «Vysseia» festival.

World Mathematics Conference
MILESTONE · 2000

World Mathematics Conference

In 2000 the Association organised a World Mathematics Conference in Nea Vyssa, honouring the international legacy of Constantin Carathéodory.

Partnerships

The association collaborates with cultural societies and organisations from the wider Evros region and across Greece, having taken part in various events both within Greece (Megaron Concert Hall, Herodion, Epidaurus, Ancient Olympia, Lycabettus) and abroad, in countries such as Bulgaria, Germany, Turkey and Egypt.

The association also works closely with all the bodies of the Municipality of Orestiada and the Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, receiving moral and material support across every area of its operation. Its members and the residents of Nea Vyssa actively support its events and activities.
